Puella Magi Madoka Magica (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magika, translated as "Magical Girl Madoka Magica", shortened as "Madoka Magica" or "Madoka",) is a japanese anime produced by companies Shaft and Aniplex; directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, written by Gen Urobuchi, character design by Ume Aoki and Takahiro Kishida, and music by Yuki Kajiura, the series began after Shinbo wanted to work on a new magical girl anime after Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. Shinbo expressed this to producer Atsuhiro Iwakami while they worked on anime Bakemonogatari and Hidamari Sketch. Madoka Magica ran for 12 episodes from January 7th, 2011 to April 21st, 2011. It spawned mangas, drama CDs, novels, games, and 3 films.
Storyline[]
Around the world, in the past and present, chosen young girls are discovered by mysterious creatures, who give them the chance to fufil one wish by becoming a Magical Girl (魔法少女 Mahō Shōjo), a girl who uses magical powers to fight the creatures known as Witches (魔女 Majo). After having a strange dream, Mitakihara student Madoka Kaname meets a creature known as Kyubey. Along with her friend Sayaka Miki, the two are selected to become magical girls. But that same day, the girl in her dream, Homura Akemi, transfers to her class, and warns her, telling Madoka to value the life she has. Madoka and Sayaka also meet Mami Tomoe, a magical girl who has been fighting witches herself. It seems, however, that Homura wants to prevent Madoka and Sayaka from contracting... What will they do, and why did this happen?
